06.27.05 - Became an Ames sometime in the late 1980's or early 1990's. It was located on the Northwest corner of 63rd Street and Cass Avenue. I remember going there with my Mom after we would go to the bank located across the street.
I remember that after that Ames closed sometime in the 1990's, that corner started to die. It became a real seedy area, and a lot of the stores that were in that same strip mall started to close. It kind of became a dive.

But revival started to show in about 1997 when they made the old Ames store that sat vacant for years into an Eagle grocery store. Then, the strip all started to show some signs of life again. Many stores came back, including a place called "Leaps & Bounds", a giant play place with tubes and such for young children. I used to take my little 4 year old cousin there.

But, the Eagle grocery store chain (a Chicago-based grocery retailer with about 15 stores throughout Chicago) announced in 2002 that they would be closing up shop, and I believe to this day that space once again sits vacant.
