03.20.05 - Located in an active, but somewhat “ghetto” shopping center near the old Carolina Circle Mall. I apologize that the picture is a little fuzzy. I needed to back up a little to get the Winn-Dixie that replaced Ames and the last piece of the old Zayre/Ames façade, which is now home to a store called Fashion Town.

02.27.05 - According to the Greensboro News & Record, the Zayre stores that became Ames stores opened in 1968, became Ames in 1989, and closed by 1992.

01.31.05 - Ames bought several Zayre stores in the late ‘80s in N.C. about the same time they came to Roanoke for the first time. They went out of business about the same time too. As far as I know all the following were originally built as Zayre in the late ‘60s-early ‘70s.
Currently a Winn-Dixie Marketplace supermarket, opened around 1994 or so.
