We are looking for Bobby Burton, former Ames Remodel Team Project Manager as we want to inform him that his son has graduated college. He has not contacted family in years; if anyone knows his whereabouts please inform us via anita.jean@verizon.net It has been uncharacteristic of him to have no contact with us; yet, we are hoping that he has not expired. Thank you for your help.

Bobby Burton

Bobby was Project Mgr. at the Ames Store I worked in Pennsylvania. Bobby was fun to work with and he has a wonderful personality. I'm sorry to hear about his absence. I pray you locate him. I also want to congratulate your son on his graduation. Please update if he contacts you. Good Luck & God Bless..

Home Office

I worked in the Home Office, first in the Traffic Department then Payroll in the early 80's

The home office is 2 stores combined. The one to the right was a Finest Supermarket, can't remember the one on the left. The small building across the parking lot was a bank where a majority of us cashed our checks. I left in 86 prior to the Zayre buy out which to many was the company's demise.

Ames in Westfield, MA

| show fullshow summary

I noticed you had on here the Ames in Southampton, Agawam, and Southwick but there was also one in Westfield as well which closed around 1996. It was on Rt 20 headed in towards town in a shopping center called Westgate Plaza. Currently an Ocean State Job Lot and a Staples occupy that space. It's on its 3rd re-incarnation since Ames. It was an Edwards Supermarket for awhile, then a Stop & Shop, and now it's what's mentioned above.

This store did not close for the lack of business. It was busy a lot of the time but not one of their larger locations - the one in Southwick was much bigger. This was an old-school one as well. For the longest time this store had the really old-school block lettering on the front of it. Resembling the A font you showed in that one particular store in Great Barrington. They eventually changed over to the current logo but it was way after the other ones did.

Truth be told I always thought Caldor was way better than Ames. It just seemed like they had better...

Old Timer

As a previous Ames employee for 18 years in the lower Hudson Valley, just a quick note on 2 Ames locations- Carmel, NY is now a Hannaford Grocery store, and Pawling NY store is now a strip mall.

Home Office

I started working for Ames in Home Office in the old days when we actually ran into the Gilman brothers in the hallways -- and they knew most of us by name!

Merchandising, Operations and Advertising were located in an old Grants (remember them?) store; the Executive Offices and IT were in a bunch of smaller shops; and Finance was in the old Finast. Ultimately I ended up in West Hartford in the old Coleco building. All I remember about that was how dark and depressing it was.
