Interesting website!
I remember Ames from our summer trips to Maine in the 80s. One specific thing I remember was the Ames "tumblers" that they gave away sometime in the mid-late 80s. We got some and as kids thought it was hilarious that a cup was called a "tumbler," so we would go around saying "I want an Ames tumbler!!" whenever we needed a cup.

Man I miss the really old school musty ones like this. You don't get that feeling that you used to get walking into these weird little buildings. This is how I always remember ames being way back in the day

Where does the time go?
I can't believe it's been 20 years since I was in that store... I remember going there as a kid when it was a Zayre Store and begging my mom to buy me Stompers and He Man. Sad to see it gone.
