The only things I know about this store is that it stayed open until the end of Ames. It had an outdoor garden center, the remnants of which are in some of the pics. Nothing has happened to the store until a few weeks ago. Then, some of the remaining fixtures were moved to the right side of the store, while other fixtures were put in the dumpsters that recently appeared out back. Some ceiling tiles have been removed and put in neat stacks. Check out the receiving sign. Part of it appears hand written. It's been gutted in anticipation of an as yet unknown tenant. I missed the gutting by a few days. The workmen said had I come by a few days earlier I could have had lots of Ames stuff they threw away!!!!

My family lived down the street from this location since 1978. Before it was Ames, it was first called Mammoth Mart, then it was called King's. Since we were so close to it, both my brother and I worked there as teenagers in the 90's. In the stock room in the back, one of the water pipes still said "To Mammoth Mart."
